Samsung Galaxy S4 launch event
We have seen some pretty crazy stuff when it comes to product
launches over the years, but this one takes the cake, the icing, the
baking tray, the oven and the entire freakin’ bakery.
Samsung, in association with multi-brand electronics store Reliance Digital, recently held an event to mark the start of sales of the brand new Galaxy S4. With Bollywood stars also present at the event, it was always going to be a song-and-dance affair. But we didn’t think it would end up as this mess.
A video of the event shows Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh dancing to a song set to the tune of Psy’s Gangnam Style. However, the words were changed from Korean to a twisted pile of Hinglish. And the words of the song extol the virtues of the Samsung Galaxy S4.
“If you like the S3, then this phone is even better. It has an HD screen and is just a lot slimmer,” starts Singh, before going on to sing about the other features. 441 PPI is not just a number he sings and follows it up with this gem: “Look at this clarity. It’s brighter!”
Some lyrics are just genius: “Aage bhi camera, peeche bhi camera. Dual Shot! Drama Shot!” This particular example makes us want to coin a new term: S-Lyrics. And we are also hoping Samsung adds cameras on the sides of the phone next.
And if those present forgot which store they should visit, the lyricist helpfully reminds them: “S4 le lo. Reliance se le lo.” The whole shenanigan ends with the cry: “S4, Samsung-style!“
Of course, one look at the video and it’s apparent that Singh is just lip-synching to the song, which we at least hope was being ad-libbed, because nothing else can explain the cringeworthiness of the whole thing. Can’t recall the last time we wanted a video to end sooner.
